Double Glazing Repair

Failed Unit Repair & Replacement

We can fix your misty windows!

There are a number of ways people describe failed units...

Fogged up, Foggy, Steamed up, Steamy, Misty, Misted, Cloudy, Clouded, Blown. There's bound to be others but they all mean the same.

Generally speaking its when the seal between the two panes of glass has broken down. Whilst there are repair methods available they are not suitable for all cases.

Once a unit is displaying signs of failure the damage may well have been done already. Calcium deposits can stain the surface of the glass if the blown unit has actual water inside.

In addition to re-sealing the unit as it was originally made would require removing from the frame and temporary glazing fitted. The unit would then need to be returned to the factory to be split down, thoroughly cleaned and re-sealed. Then returned to site to re-fit... assuming it hasn’t broken during this lengthy and risky laborious procedure.

The cost can be more than the cost of a new replacement unit, with a full guarantee and none of the hassle. There are times when this is worthwhile; if its patterned glass and is obsolete for example. Otherwise replacement is the better option.

Please send over your dimensions and quantities and please indicate what your frames are made from... ie PVCu, Aluminium, Timber. Also what floor level i.e. Ground or first floor and when the frames were fitted (if known) or whether they appear to be 10 or more years old.

Email them over, or call us for a free estimate. We can supply only or supply and fit, the choice is yours...

PVCu, Aluminium and Timber Windows

Generally it would need a site visit. Sometimes some detailed photographs emailed over with some critical, accurate dimensions can suffice. If necessary you can use our online window ESPAQ identification sheet to help you identify the lock for us.

If a window has become increasingly difficult to operate don’t continue to force it as its likely something will break. Sometimes its just a simple case of adjustment.

Should parts needed be non stock items we will research, source and prepare a written quotation.

PVCu, Aluminium, Composite and Timber Doors

Again, generally it would need a visit. Sometimes some detailed photographs emailed over with some critical, accurate dimensions can suffice. If necessary you can use our online lock identification sheet to help you identify the lock for us.

Should you prefer we can visit site. If it can be replaced from van stock it would be £65.00 plus materials. If a door has become increasingly difficult to operate don’t continue to force it as its likely something will break. Quite often with PVCu doors customers say it had required more and more effort to lift the handle up before it broke.

PVCu, composite, aluminium and some timber doors have multi point locking systems (MPLS). There have been hundreds of different types manufactured over the years. Unfortunately some are now obsolete. We hold extensive stocks at our trade counter and also carry the more common types on our service vehicles. Occasionally we can replace just the lock case although these are not cheaper, but sometimes the only solution. If your existing MPLS has failed completely and we don’t hold a suitable replacement in stock we have temporary locks we can fit. These are sometimes referred to as "overnight" locks as they are the centre lock only without the multi-point locking part. Obviously better than nothing but not ideal to be left indefinitely. The issue is that with PVCu there is potentially a lot of flex dependant on how much re-inforcing (if any) is contained within the profile.

Replacement Door Handles

Unfortunately the same applies regarding the lack of uniformity within the industry relating to critical dimensions. In addition there have also been a few size deletions over the years. Some manufacturers have either disappeared altogether or pulled out of this market.

We do keep in stock a vast range to suit most common replacements. We also stock universal handles that have oversized back plates and component keyway and handle drive position allowing them to slide up and down to cover a multitude of applications. However due to the increased engineering of these they are considerably more expensive and take longer to fit.

If you can fill in our online handle identification sheet and email it over we will be happy to quote for either supply only or fitted if you prefer.

Patio Door Repairs

We are able to carry out repairs to all makes of patio doors, weather sliding or hinged (French doors). We can replace wheels, tracks, locks handles and the glass. We can even replace the hardwood sub frame if that’s what the problem is. Earlier patio doors suffered from low security locks being the standard fit. We can supply and fit additional aftermarket security locks for peace of mind. Due to the many various types of patio door on the market most repair work would be quoted. Please free to call with your requirements for an estimated cost. If you can take some photographs and email them over. [Online Patio Door Lock Id Sheet]

Teleflex Window Winding Gear

We can supply and fit replacement window winding gear, either mechanical or electric. We also have a repair service. We are pleased with our long association with a number of sheltered housing projects and care homes. All our staff being passed by CRB Enhanced scrutiny offers complete peace of mind. A number of these require devices to assist users with dexterity difficulties.

We are able to offer a full range of Disabled Discrimination Act (DDA) products to help, such as night latches brightly coloured with large operating paddles internally as opposed to fiddly knobs.

Teleflex window gear is also used to operate high level windows, typically found in schools. These can even have rain sensors or heat sensors connected to them so they will open and close automatically. We also install automatic smoke vents which can be connected to fire alarms to release toxic fumes in the event of fire.
